SINGLE REVIEW: ANAAL NATHRAKH - FORWARD!
As one of the most consistent extreme metal bands going, Birmingham duo ‘Anaal Nathrakh’ could never be described as “accessible”. That being said, the more industrial direction that the band has taken in recent years has definitely been slightly less abrasive than their earlier records. This is in no way a criticism however, as anyone who heard 2016’s ‘The Whole Of The Law’ can attest, ‘Anaal Nathrakh’ are still very much at the top of their game. Continuing with the tradition of releasing a new record every two years, ‘Forward!’ is the new single from the highly anticipated 10th album ‘A New Kind Of Horror’ which is due at the end of this September. Continuing in the vein of their more recent material, ‘Forward!’ has a strong industrial sheen to it, but the two-piece are certainly not treading water. Put simply, this song fucking slams! Mick Kenney’s drumming steals the show with sensationally fast blast beats that imitate the sound of machine gun fire. Meanwhile, Dave Hunt’s vocals are unusually clear in that it is possible to make out every lyric that he shrieks down the microphone. As their sound continues to evolve, it is safe to say that ‘Anaal Nathrakh’ have not grown stale over time and following the success of ‘The Whole Of The Law’, we wait impatiently to get our hands on ‘A New Kind Of Horror’. 4/5
