SINGLE REVIEW: SERENE DARK - DUALITATUM
Formed from the ashes of ‘Endemise’, the Ottowan metallers are back with a new name and a single ahead of a debut full length scheduled for later this year. Now performing under the moniker of ‘Serene Dark’, ‘Dualitatum’ is a bold statement of intent for what promises to be a very exciting debut record. Filled to the brim with blast beats and sweeping guitar licks, ‘Dualitatum’ takes you on a rich and varied journey throughout the near 7 minute running time.
Starting off with eerie piano and orchestral backing track to a spoken word soundbite exploring the dangers of the human psyche, ‘Dualitatum’ then launches into a gigantic wall of sound of brutal and extreme metal that never stops for breath. ‘Serene Dark’ remain technically diverse throughout the track and yet, despite a guitar solo that shreds faster than a speeding bullet, their technical prowess never feels excessive or showy. We may have a while to wait before the release of their full length, but for now, Spirit Level are more than happy to listen to ‘Dualitatum’ on repeat.
