SINGLE REVIEW: NEW BLOW - INVINCIBLE

After forming in 2017, French alternative rockers 'New Blow' wasted little time in releasing their debut EP 'Escape The Earth'. Less than a year since forming, 'New Blow' are preparing to release their sophomore EP 'Flame' which is scheduled for a May release. Their latest single 'Invincible' sets the bar high for what promises to be a very exciting band to add the ever growing roster of new and interesting alternative artists emerging throughout Europe and the UK.

As we have mentioned in previous reviews, Spirit Level have grown weary of the stale and uninteresting Indie and Alternative bands that currently dominate the mainstream radio waves and we are constantly on the lookout for bands with a bit more of a bite to their music. As the opening clean guitar chords start 'Invincible' threatens to be yet another indie song, however Delphine's impressive vocals are enough to maintain interest and draw you in. It is when the chorus kicks in though that 'New Blow' truly show their worth with a titanic shift in guitar tone that comes screaming out of the speakers. From hereon 'Invincible' is a non-stop banger. Delphine's vocals sound like a bizarre mix of 'Red Hot Chilli Peppers' and 'The Cranberries' and her raw power shines through in the hard hitting chorus's. The rest of the band show that they are masters of dynamic shifts as the song twists and turns in various directions before veering into a savage flanger fuelled breakdown and an incredible guitar solo that shows technical skill but never distracts away from the rest of the song.

The track ends suddenly and without warning and leaves us all begging for more. 'New Blow' are a force to be reckoned with and we look forwarding to hearing the rest of the EP soon.

4/5

'Flame' is out on the 13th May 2018
