SINGLE REVIEW: OMINOUS ECLIPSE - SINISTER
In 2015 Canadian Death Metallers 'Ominous Eclipse' released their outstanding debut full length record 'End of Days'. Drawing inspiration from bands such as 'Lamb of God', 'Gojira'and 'Children Of Bodom'; 'End of Days' was a glorious hybrid of multiple sub-genres welded together into a collection of delectable extreme music.
Fast forward three years and 'Ominous Eclipse' are back with their upcoming sophomore album 'Sinister'. Whilst the album itself has yet to be given an official release date, 'Ominous Eclipse' have already released two songs so far in the form of 'The Horde' and 'Spiral into Insanity'. The former is a seven minute long epic that draws comparisons as varied as 'Avenged Sevenfold' and 'Napalm Death' via 'Lamb Of God'; the latter is a tightly packed track of demented brutality. Now the band have unleashed 'Sinister'; the title track from the upcoming record.
Continuing in the vein of their previous material, 'Sinister' is a savage combination of thrash and death metal. In fact, 'Sinister' may be the heaviest song in their roster so far. The dual vocals between guitarists Graham Murphy and James Close take on a much darker and extreme tone that resembles the pig squeals of 'Napalm Death' at points. Jeremiah Marshall starts the song with a face-smashing drum fill and continues to show off his prowess throughout the track. The riffs are so fast and frantic that you risk tearing your head off from headbanging and the shredding guitar solos are second to none.
Whilst we wait with anticipation to hear the rest of the record ''Sinister'' is yet another outstanding track on what looks set to be a very exciting record from 'Ominous Eclipse'.
