SINGLE REVIEW: SHOCKPOWDER - LUCID
With only three tracks posted to their soundcloud page, London based Post-Rock trio 'Shockpowder' are a very new band. Not that you would be able to tell by listening to their latest single 'Lucid'.
'Lucid' is the sound of a fully formed band spreading its wings as they alternate between moments of melancholic vocals and acoustic guitars to short, sharp blasts of white hot metallic riffs. Drawing influence from bands like 'Tool' and 'Alcest' the band have taken the best qualities of their first two songs and merged them together to create something completely new and remarkable. Joshua Scurfield's melancholic vocals recall a toned down Maynard-Keenan and the accompanying guitar brings to mind the legendary bands work on '10,000 Days'. They may not be as technically adept as 'Tool', but lets face it; who is?
The songs crushing breakdown and finale is drummer Louie Watson's moment to shine as he amplifies the groove driven by Scurfield's palm muted guitar and Alasdair Spence's hard hitting bass.
The fact that this band are only on their third song release is astonishing and we cannot wait to watch this band progress further in the world of Post-Rock and Shoegaze.
